Q'anil and Isabella

My Princess

Back to school, DAYS OF THE DEAD

From halloween october 31 through november 3, are the days of the dead.
This is my favorite mexican holiday, in memory of anyone who has passed on.
There were celebrations everywhere, especially at Xcaret, where there was a huge
celebration, in the evening for these 4 days, free, for local residents.
We went there one evening, with Isabella's friend from school, Caline, and her mom and
grandmom. They recreated everything in what they call el pueblo Maya, including a cemetery,
where everyone brought flowers and candles to make a massive misa or mass. There was
music and tamales, we came early and saw some animals from this lovely park, jaguar,
monkeys, horses, and more, what a fun celebration!

The summer was long and hot, summer of 2007, and then there was hurricane Dean.
I was so tired of the hurricanes that my first reaction was to flee.
I boarded up my house and Isabella and I got into the car and drove. We went to Palanque, Chiapas, because it seemed to be the safest place to go. the entire Yucatan peninsula is in
danger when there is a hurricane. and very often continues to the other side, to Verecruz as well. Palanque is where the ancient Mayan Ruins are.
Isabella had just returned to school, when we were told that a number 5 hurricane was coming our way. In the end the hurricane did very little damage to Playa del Carmen, where we live, but destroyed many parts of the areas further south, only a few driving hours away.

As we approached Palanque, we could feel the serenity of the area. Palanque has many memories for me, i have come back many times in 25 years.
It is so green and picturesque with windy steep rodes, amazing cascades, beautiful countryside, and breaths of spiritual energy. checkout the photo slideshow.

Our visit to Amelia Island

From april to september 06, we had to repair the roof to my house in Playa del Carmen, and we passed an uncomfortable hot summer squeezed into one room.
The roof was destroyed in Hurricane Wilma, which i missed since i was in Guatemala.
by october i was ready to take a break, and explore possiblities for
living in the U.S, in a lovely town called Fernandina beach, or Amelia
Island, just outside of Jacksonville, in the most north east part of Florida,
the deep south. We really enjoyed it, and stayed for 4 months, experiencing
a mild winter, and beautiful surroundings

Uncle Irving and Aunt Sheila

Isabella felt right at home, and was so tired she fell asleep in
uncle Irving's arms.
